Sophia, is an Assistant Professor of the Practice in the Duke Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Department. After earning her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering she joined the faculty at the United States Naval Academy, teaching courses in engineering fundamentals and machine design. She’s also worked as a math teacher across the four-year high school curriculum at Phillips Exeter Academy, St. Georges School, and most recently Sidwell Friends School, where she also developed a new engineering curriculum for high school students. Sophia’s recent research interests include STEM and math education, especially for women, along with student learning and classroom practices.
